New union for industry workers
Monday 21 May 2012
Workers in the metal, chemical, energy, mining, textiles, clothing and leather industries will from now on be represented at EU level by the trade union IndustriALL. The European Metalworkers Federation (EMF), the European Mine, Chemical and Energy Workers’ Federation (EMCEF) and the European Trade Union Federation - Textiles, Clothing and Leather have joined together to create a single organisation. Launched at a congress, on 16 May, the new federation will be directed by Ulrich Eckelmann (IG Metall, Germany), while Valeria Fedeli (Filtea-CGIL, Italy) Renzo Ambrosetti (Unia, Switzerland) and Anders Ferbe (IF Metall, Sweden) will act as vice-presidents. IndustriAll is based in Brussels, in the international trade union building, “in order to consolidate links between the ETUC and the international trade union community”.
