EGF: Spain gets 1.6 mn euro
Thursday 26 July 2012
On 26 July, the European Commission announced that it has made a €1.6 million payment to Spain from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF). The amount was approved by the budget authority in early June – on 8 June by the EU Council of Ministers and 12 June by the European Parliament. The money will help 876 former footwear workers back into employment through job search help, professional training and support to start a new company. According to estimates, the drop in the export of shoes made in Europe has led to an 11.58% decrease in the number of manufacturers in the EU27 between 2005 and 2008.
