Cedefop issues warning on impending skill mismatches
Friday 23 March 2012
The latest forecast of demand and supply of skills in the EU by the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop) shows that in spite of a net increase in employment of eight million new jobs by 2020, the EU could be confronted over the next few years with skill mismatches and, in some sectors, skill shortages. The study, presented at the European Economic and Social Committee on 22 March, identifies five professional groups in which the demand for labour will increase until 2020. These are: intermediate-level professions; basic sales and service and direct personal services staff; protection and security services staff; intellectual and scientific professions; as well senior managerial board members.
