Regional Policy Commissioner Johannes Hahn announced, on 21 May, an agreement with Spanish Finance Minister Cristobal Montoro to speed up payments for the closure of projects part-funded by the EU Structural Funds. The agreement will result in faster payments to beneficiaries of transport and environment projects co-financed by the Cohesion Fund out of the budget for 2000-2006. The projects, which have already been completed, were co-financed in the amount of €939 million. While in Madrid, the commissioner also discussed the reprogramming of funds not used during the 2007-2014 programming period to finance projects in line with the ‘Europe 2020’ strategy for growth and jobs.
