Wednesday 18 July 2012
Poland’s Minister of Agriculture, Marek Sawicki, presented his letter of resignation to Prime Minister Donald Tusk, on 18 July, after allegations arose concerning the mishandling of funds by the ministry’s agency responsible for disbursing EU farm subsidies. Sawicki told local media, on 17 July, that he wanted a “quick clarification of the allegations”. As a member of the government’s junior coalition partner, the Polish Peasants’ Party (PSL), Sawicki led the ministry for more than four years.
