On 19 December 2011, the Board of the European Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (CESI) elected Klaus Heeger (Germany) its new secretary-general. He succeeds Helmut Müllers, who retired at the end of the year. Heeger was born in 1967. Between 1996 and 2002, he was employed by CESI. This was followed by other assignments, among them in the European Parliament and as a private entrepreneur in Estonia.
