On 9 July, Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic appointed the new government led by Iveta Radicová. The country’s first femal prime minister, who belongs to the Christian Democratic Union (EPP family), will head a coalition composed of four centre-right parties. The foreign affairs portfolio was entrusted to former Prime Minister Mikulás Dzurinda and that of finance to Ivan Miklos, an enemy of budget deficit. Other key ministers range from new political arrivals from the Liberal party SaS, such as the former head of an advertising agency, Juraj Miskov, who joins the Ministry of the Economy, and the head of a supermarket chain, Lubomir Galko, who takes over defence. Radicova’s first trip will take place on 12 July, when she visits the European Commisssion in Brussels.
