Karl Ake Roghe was appointed, on 10 July, head of the EU Police Mission in Afghanistan (EUPOL Afghanistan). The decision was taken by the EU’s Political and Security Committee. Roghe, from Sweden, will take up his duties on 1 August, with his mandate running until 31 May 2013. He will succeed Brigadier-General Jukka Savolainen, who had been in the post since July 2010, and interim Head of Mission Geoffrey Cooper. www.eupol-afg.eu
