On 12 August, the European Commission appointed Georg Jarzembowski as coordinator for ‘functional airspace blocks’ (FABs) in the Single European Sky The role of the coordinator will be to facilitate negotiations at high political level between the different states engaged in the creation of FABs, in order to meet the deadline of 4 December 2012. The creation of FABs will generate considerable cost savings, in particular by allowing more direct flight routes, the Commission said.
