A compromise was close, on 28 June in Brussels, at the end of the eleventh negotiating session between the European Parliament and the Commission on the renewal of the framework agreement governing their relations until 2014 (see
Europolitics4009). While the thorny issue of the place to be granted to MEPs in international conferences has not yet been settled, the foundations have been laid in order to reach agreement rather quickly, according to a Commission spokesperson. Interinstitutional Relations Commissioner Maros Sefcovic (Social Democrat, Slovakia), is expected to present to the College of Commissioners, during a meeting on 6 July in Strasbourg, the points subject to a consensus between the two institutions and those pending. According to the same source, the final text could be subject to the approval of Parliament and the Commission when they reassemble in September.
