The EU Council appointed, on 7 June, Dr Ferdinand Maier of Austria as a member of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) for the remainder of the current term of office, which runs until 20 September 2015. Maier is secretary-general of the Austrian Raiffeisen Association (Österreichischen Raiffeisenverbands).
