ELDR congress
Thursday 19 November 2009
Six hundred Europeans are meeting from 18 to 20 November in Barcelona for the 30th congress of the European Liberal, Democrat and Reform party (ELDR) on the theme of economic liberalism after the financial crisis. The ELDR will elect its new president (to succeed Belgian national Annemie Neyts-Uyttebroeck) and four vice-presidents. Although it is meeting 1,000 km from Brussels, the Liberal family still has an eye on the EU summit and supports the current Finnish Commissioner for Enlargement, Olli Rehn, for the job of high representative for foreign affairs and security policy.
