The European Commission announced, on 19 January, the transfer of several senior managers in the interest of the service, following the retirement of Regional Policy Director-General Dirk Ahner, on 1 January. Ahner will be replaced by Walter Deffaa, currently director-general in the Taxation and Customs Union Directorate-General. The post Deffaa leaves behind will be filled by Heinz Zourek, currently director-general in the Enterprise and Industry DG. Zourek’s current post will be filled by Daniel Calleja Crespo, currently deputy director-general responsible for Directorates C, D, E and F plus International Relations, special envoy for SMEs in the Enterprise and Industry Directorate-General. Calleja Crespo’s current post will be filled by Antti Peltomaki, currently deputy director-general in the Information Society and Media DG. All transfers take effect on 1 February. In addition, Jacob Werksman has been appointed to the vacant position of principal advisor in the Climate Action Directorate-General. Werksman is currently programme director at the World Resources Institute in Washington DC. The decision will take effect on a date to be determined.
