Belgium strives to meet transposition goal

Friday 03 September 2010

With an eye to the European Commission’s November 2010 scoreboard, the Belgian EU Presidency has announced that it has to transpose 23 directives into national law by the 31 October deadline. Ten are related to federal competences, three to the federal level with a procedure for consultation or involvement of the federated entities, six concern mixed competences and four are the exclusive competence of the federated entities. State Secretary for European Affairs Olivier Chastel adds that his country still has to transpose “eight directives to meet the 1% standard or 13 directives to equal the result of the previous scoreboard”. Belgium has the goal of setting an example during its time at the head of the EU Council and making a “maximum effort” to confirm its previous “strong score of 0.7% of non-transposed directives”.
