Food additives: Updating of list
Monday 25 June 2012
The EU Council decided, on 22 June, not to oppose a set of proposals updating the Union’s list of authorised food additives. Unless the European Parliament objects, this means that the Commission will authorise the use of: benzoic acid or benzoates (E210-E213) in alcohol-free counterparts of wine; polysorbates (E432-E436) in coconut milk; talc (E553b) and carnauba wax (E903) on unpeeled coloured boiling eggs; and shellac (E904) on unpeeled boiled eggs. The Council also decided not to oppose the Commission’s draft regulation on transitional measures related to the Union’s list of flavourings and source materials set out in Annex I to Regulation (EC) 1334/2008.
