Flat panel display JV approved

Tuesday 10 April 2012

The European Commission granted clearance, on 10 April, to a proposed joint venture by Samsung Mobile Display Co., Ltd. (SMD, South Korea) – which is part of the Samsung Group – and Corning Holding Japan G.K. (Corning, Japan) – which is part of the Corning Group. SMD and Corning will acquire joint control of a new enterprise (the ‘joint venture’), created through the purchase of shares. SMD is active in the manufacturing and sale of flat panel display systems, in particular film transistor liquid crystal displays (TFT-LCD) and organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays. Corning is a holding company investing in companies, which manufacture and sell TFT-LCD glass products for use in displays and which sell other Corning products in Japan. The joint venture will be active in the manufacturing and sale of glass substrates for OLED applications in Korea.
