EIB: Unprecedented support for Morocco in 2009
Friday 23 October 2009
The visit to Morocco by European Investment Bank Vice-President Philippe de Fontaine Vive was the occasion for the signature, on 22 October, of a major new loan for motorway infrastructure. The EIB signed with Autoroutes du Maroc (ADM) a €225 million loan agreement – the highest ever granted to Morocco – for major improvements to the motorway system in the Kingdom of Morocco. With this agreement, the financing of an automotive production site in Tangiers, its participation in the school modernisation programme and, before the end of the year, a contribution to the capital’s tramway system, the EIB will have made available more than half a billion euro – an unprecedented level of support – to the Moroccan economy to help it modernise and take up the challenges of the economic crisis.
