In a draft resolution adopted by the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), on 6 February, MEPs voiced their concerns over the political division inside Iceland’s government regarding EU membership, and encouraged “the adoption of comprehensive strategies for the accession to the EU”. Discussing the European Commission’s progress report on Iceland, MEPs welcomed Reykjavik’s “generally satisfactory track record” in its progress towards EU membership. However, they also called on the government to “enhance the preparations for alignment with the EU
acquis.”
