Support for peacekeeping in Somalia

Wednesday 01 September 2010

The European Commission confirmed, on 1 September, its support for the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) by granting it an additional €47 million, bringing the EU allocation to AMISOM to a total of €142 million. The aid has been funded since 2007 under the African Peace Facility (APC). AMISOM has been involved in peacekeeping operations in Mogadishu since March 2007. The EU’s renewed support will give it the means to provide protection for the transitional federal institutions, assist with the implementation of the national security and stabilisation plan (NSSP), facilitate humanitarian operations and support disarmament and stabilisation efforts.
