Metal enterprises highlight their capacities
Wednesday 20 June 2012
The European representatives of metal producers are meeting on 20 June in Brussels to create the Metals for Building alliance. Following recent legislative developments on the energy efficiency of buildings and bearing in mind the future EU strategy for the construction sector, which was announced for this autumn, metal enterprises want to highlight their specificities. As well as being highly resistant, metal is re-useable ad infinitum. The President, Patrick Le Pense, said: “The effective recycling rate reaches 95% depending on products, and the recycling chain is already well established”. The metal sector is worth €100 billion a year in the EU and is responsible for directly employing 500,000 people. It is all the more crucial because, as Le Pense said, “without metal, you can’t build anything”. The alliance hopes to contribute to the future high-level group for the construction sector, which should be established by the Commission after the summer.
