EP vote on late payments postponed

Tuesday 18 May 2010

Although the European Parliament was scheduled to vote on the revision of the 2002 directive on late payments in commercial transactions during the current plenary session, the vote has now been postponed until the 14-17 June session. To recall, the Parliament’s Committee on the Internal Market (IMCO) approved, on 28 April, a draft report by Barbara Weiler (S&D, Germany), which seeks to toughen up the rules proposed by the European Commission. According to the text, governments and companies will have to face tighter payment deadlines – 30 days for the public authorities (or up to 60 days in exceptional cases).
