The agenda of the European Commission’s working seminar, on 1 and 2 September at Val Duchesse castle, is taking shape (see
Europolitics4029). Five main items will be on the agenda of the meeting that starts at 11:00 on 1 September and will end after lunch the next day: the Commission’s actions in 2010-2011; the events of the summer period (floods in Pakistan and controversy over the expulsion of Roma in France); the experience of nine months of implementation of the Lisbon Treaty; and a policy debate on industrial policy and revision of the EU budget set to begin on 29 September (4031). Commission head José Manuel Barroso will also deliver, on 7 September at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, his annual ‘State of the Union’ speech. The exercise is not new but has been given a new name (inspired by the American model) as part of the development of a ‘special partnership’ between the two institutions.
